Stupid, aggressive, neighbors dog.

(C&;P from the IMs I sent a friend)

The people next door have a JRT that always attacks Kira. I was in the backyard with my cat Tafi (very old, she loves being outdoors though so I take her even though she's deaf/hyperthyroid/bad hind legs. I had charlie out there too because I knew that he would probably scare off any hawks or crows that decided she looked tasty.

The JRT gets under the fence, chases Tafi (who can barely run) and starts biting her. Charlie gets in his path when he does, which allows me some time to get there and Tafi to get away. But our yard is fenced in (which I hoped would protect her from strays!) and she can't jump it to get away. So she's cornered, Charlie's not aggressive so he won't attack the JRT, and I finally get there, kick the JRT while he's attacking Tafi, and the JRT goes and runs on the disgustingly dirty hill we have in the way back. He's gotten under the fence before and always attacks anyone who tries to throw him back over. And every time I went to hold up the fence so he could get back through HE growled at me, and their labxhound on the other side tried to bite me.

So I put Tafi in the shed, and removed the blocks and went to get the slip-on lead (the blocks we put on his holes he digs under the fence) and when I come back he's back in his yard, Charlie's looking very happy that he's gone, and Tafi won't stop shaking. D< Kira has scars COVERING her face from the thing. You can't go an inch on her muzzle without finding one. And my parents have refused time AFTER time about not letting me speak a word of this to the neighbor. UGH. Fucking bastards. The neighbors, my parents, and that retarded terrier.

=/ I for one know JRT can be horrible creatures when not owned by a responsible person.

>_< I say call animal control-- that dog is a threat to other creatures, and needs to be taken care of-- either by the owners getting in trouble, or being taken away and rehomed. If you have to, call the animal control without your parents' permission: your animals' lives are at stake. What would happen if that dog killed your animals, or someone elses'? Terriers are high-drive dogs-- I know, I've owned 3 JRTs myself, and have been around many more. They are cunning, spiteful, energetic little creatures that need training, or are otherwise destructive.

I'm thinking about talking to the husband of the house to see if he could keep the dog in the front yard. Even if their dogs aren't, they are nice people.

A poorly trained dog is a reflection of a bad owner, and I don't know any responsible owners who let their dogs run loose. Would they listen if you were allowed to mention it to them? I imagine that if they knew their dog had injured your cat, they'd probably make an effort to be a little more responsible. You might try asking the advice of your local animal control - they've handled just about every kind of situation.

"That's not the way to use a paint brush," said Beezus. "Besides, you're getting paint on your fingers."
"Look - Ralph's feet marks," exclaimed Ramona, paying no attention to Beezus.
